Description

Blue gum honey which is also known as Eucalyptus honey is commonly found across the geographical span of Australia. This specific variety of honey is more than familiar to Apiculturists hailing from down under. This very distinct kind of honey owes it’s distinctness to the fact that it is extracted from the flower nectar of eucalyptus globulus. It is performatively sourced and produced by the bees feeding on this particular strain of eucalyptus. This honey comes with a relishable flavour which is unlike any other type of honey. Honey has been known to humanity, at large, for it’s curative or healing properties similarly blue gum honey is also regarded as an effective antioxidant, and to a qualified extent, as a natural medicine, too, for it is known to set off sundry diseases ranging from bacterial infections to problems related to urinary tract.

Health benefits

  • Natural antibacterial properties : Blue gum honey, as well, is known as a natural antibacterial as it contains hydrogen peroxide which is a naturally occurring antimicrobial compound and certain other additive factors, as such as it’s low moisture retention capacity, low pH level (on the basic side of the strip) and variegated antioxidant actions, all of these factors combined together, lead up to swift healing, and duly contain the further spread of bacterial infection.(1)
  • Great for colds and flu : Blue gum honey, being naturally blessed with anti-inflammatory properties, is shown to have a palliative effect upon the pulmonary system as it is known to help with upper respiratory tract infection. It is known to smoothen irritation caused by phlegmatic deposition.(1)
  • Immune-boosting properties : There are myriad causal links, which one can draw, to explain honey’s immuno-boosting properties but the presence of pollen which carries immunomodulating properties is one such factor that helps explain honey’s immune-boosting properties as Pollen from various plants has been shown to bolster the human immune system.(1)
  • Good for urinary tract infections : It has been shown that mild urinary tract infections can be treated with administration of Eucalyptus honey. Various studies show, without any ambiguity that eucalyptus and other types of honey can, to a certain extent, block the growth of bacteria, for example, E-coli.(1)

Note

In general, Honey has been proven to be naturally safe for consumption as a natural sweetener, but medical practitioners, variably, proscribe feeding honey to toddlers under the age of 1 as it can aggravate complications as such as infant botulism which is a rare type of gastrointestinal condition caused by Clostridium Botulinum. Diabetics are also required to avoid the consumption of honey, in any form or the other. Patients allergic to certain types of pollen are also asked to avoid the consumption of honey, as it can cause serious allergic reactions.(2)
