Description
Carob is a shrub in the legume family, Fabaceae and is cultivated for its edible pods. It is native to the Mediterranean region and the Middle East. Carob powder looks a lot like cocoa powder and is prepared from carob tree pods. The ripe carob pods contain a sweet pulp which is dried, roasted, and ground into a fine, brown colored powder. It is naturally sweet, caffeine free and low in fat, and can be used as an perfect alternative to cocoa powder.
