Daruhaldi must be avoided by infants as berberine in it can cause brain damage in infants. It must also be avoided by breastfeeding and pregnant women as it could be transferred through the breast milk to the infant. Excessive consumption of it can also cause vomiting, diarrhea and excessive sweating.(2)

Description
Daruhaldi is an erect, glabrous, evergreen shrub that belongs to the family- Berberidaceae and the genus Berberis. It has oblong-ovoid or ovoid berry like fruit, violet in color with plum purple flesh inside. It is native to Himalayas in India and Nepal.
