Always prefer buying dried thyme packed in glass bottles as it is less likely to lose its flavour and aroma in glass packaging. Also check for its expiration date and make sure it is free from moisture.

Description
Dried thyme is the air-dried leaves of thyme which is a member of the aromatic perennial evergreen herbs in the mint family, Lamiaceae. It turns greyish-green in color when dried. The leaves are dried and chopped to flakes. It is native to the southern Mediterranean region, Asia and North Africa.
