Always look for drumsticks with a smooth skin that is greenish in color. Avoid the ones that seem too rigid and hard.

Description
Drumsticks are basically long, bean-like vegetables. The pods of the Drumstick tree are long, smooth-skinned, dark green in color, and three-sided. The pods are soft when mature. Within the drumstick pods is a fleshy pulp and pea-sized seeds encased in wing-shaped hulls. They are tapered at each end. Drumstick is a staple vegetable in Southern India and it is also widely consumed in other states. It is native to India & other parts of Asia & Africa.
