Description
Edamame is a soybean that is young and green when picked. Because of this, edamame is soft and edible, not hard and dry like the mature soybeans. Edamame can be served as an appetizer or snack and eaten straight from the pod, or the shelled soybeans can be incorporated into a recipe. Edamame is a healthy snack and a good source of protein, especially for those on a plant-based diet. It is low in calories, free of glucose, and high in calcium, iron, and fiber. Frozen edamame can be either bought from stores packed in sealed containers or cooked ready at home and be frozen. To make frozen edamame at home, first cook the edamame in their pods, cool, and either place in a zip-top bag as is, or shell the beans and store in an airtight container. Place in the freezer and use within a year.
