Vegetarian

Usage Tips

Description

Grated Fried Coconut is grated coconut toasted over low flame until it reaches the ideal golden brown shade. It is pounded until the natural oil is released and produces a shiny, oily brown paste, referred to as kerisik. It can be used to thicken sauces and also to provide flavor and texture to a dish. It is used as an ingredient in Indonesian, Malaysian and Singaporean cooking such as Beef Rendang, Serunding and Nasi Ulam.

Selection Guide

Read the labels to check out the expiry date of readymade grated fried coconut to confirm its freshness as its flavour and aroma dissipate as time passes. Go for fresh grated coconut as desiccated or frozen coconut may be a little too dry for this purpose. .
