Description

Hydrochloride is an acid salt produced from the reaction of hydrochloric acid with an organic base (such as an amine or alkaloid). It is a colorless substance that contains water with a distinctively pungent smell. As a hydrochloric acid, it is used as a food additive and in the production of gelatine(an ingredient used as a gelling agent). It is a primary component of stomach acid, that breaks down proteins in the stomach. +

  • Hydrochloride helps in maintaining an optimum pH level in the stomach. It creates an optimum acidic environment to convert pepsinogen into active pepsin enzyme, used for digestion of proteins. (1)
