Lodhra is generally available as a supplement in capsules or powder form.
Lodhra can affect female hormones as it decreases testosterone and cholesterol levels and increases progesterone and estrogen levels. It has anti-androgen effect and reduces male sex hormones like testosterone, thus not suitable for males. It may also cause abdominal heaviness, nausea and constipation if consumed empty stomach.(2)

Description
Lodhra is an ayurvedic herb of an evergreen medium sized tree. Though it contains about 300 species distributed in Asia and the Americas, but it is considered to be the only genus in family Symplocaceae. It has circular or oval shaped leaves, 3 to 4 inches in length. It has white or yellow coloured, small sized flowers, mostly found in clusters. The fruit of the plant is 1.5 inches long, leathery, purple blackish in color with 1 to 3 seeds in it. Its bark is light brown in color. The plant is found in Manipur, Burma, Nagpur, Assam and Pegu regions of India.
