Usage Tips

  1. Dried marigold flowers can be used to prepare herbal tea. It can be added to salads(to make it colorful) since its petals are edible. Its dried petals can be crumbled into casseroles, breads, and omelets. It can be used as a coloring agent to add yellow to deep orange to foods and can be used as a substitute to saffron.

Description

Marigold is a genus of annual or perennial, herbaceous plants in the sunflower family, Asteraceae. It is native to Egypt and parts of the Mediterranean. It is yellow-orange in color, forming small florets of petals with musky, pungent scent. They are harvested and dried for their numerous medicinal properties. It is now grown in every continent, during the warmer months of the year(May through October in the Northern Hemisphere).

Note

Marigold can increase drowsiness when combined with anti-anxiety medications, sleep medications or tranquilizers. It may cause irritation if applied directly to wounds. (2)
