Common names and forms

  1. Peanuts paste

Description

Peanut paste is made from dry and roasted peanuts. It can be easily made at home using a food processor. All that needs to be done is place peanuts in a food processor and let it run for nearly 4 to 5 minutes. During this time, the peanuts go through a series of changes from crumbs to dry balls to finally a smooth and creamy “liquid” peanut paste. At first, the mix looks impossibly crumbly and dry at the bottom of your food processor, but as the blender goes on for a little longer it starts turning into a thick mustard-colored paste called as peanut paste.

Health benefits

  • The fat content in peanut paste is almost equal to that of the fats found in olive oil. It contains both MUFA and PUFA which help to lower bad cholesterol levels (LDL) and promote the circulation of good cholesterol (HDL). (1)
  • It is a good source of vitamins like Vitamin A which is helpful for eyesight, Vitamin C which boosts the immune system and heals simple ulcers faster and Vitamin E very important micronutrient needed by our body to dissolve complex fatty acid structures and fat blockages in the arteries. (1)
  • It acts as a potent antioxidant due to the presence of folate, niacin, pantothenic acid, pyridoxine, riboflavin, thiamin, and resveratrol. Antioxidants help to fight against the free radicals that may otherwise cause damage to normal cells of the body. (1)
  • Research shows that eating a peanut paste lowers the risk of stomach, colon, lung, liver, and other cancers as it is loaded with ample amounts of Vitamin E. (2)
  • Peanuts are a rich source of niacin. Thus peanut paste helps in the recovery of cell damage of the brain, which provides protection against this disease due to its niacin content. (2)
  • Peanuts have the ability to lower LDL (bad cholesterol) and increasing 'good' cholesterol i.e. HDL, thereby reducing the possibility of developing gallstones.(2)
