Look for a firm red pumpkin, heavy for its size. Avoid if it has any signs of decay or soft spots.

Description
Red pumpkin is a variety of winter squash, a member of the Cucurbitaceae family. It is round with smooth, slightly ribbed red-orange skin. It contains carotenoids that give their flesh and skin the deep orangish-red tint. It is considered as a poor man's source of carotene in India. It is 'in season' throughout the year, and eaten as a vegetable.
