Description
Vanilla is the fruit of an orchid plant, which grows in the form of a dark brown bean pod that is long and skinny. There are over 110 varieties of vanilla orchids. Only one, Vanilla planifolia, produces the fruit responsible for 99 percent of commercial vanilla. Vanilla bean powder is simply vanilla beans, dried to zero percent humidity and ground into a fine powder. The beans are dehydrated and finely ground. There is no sugar or alcohol and it dissolves quickly in hot or cold liquids. Vanilla powder is a great alternative to vanilla extract when it comes to baked goods that can't handle additional liquid, or using high-heat methods. Vanilla powder has trace amounts of magnesium, calcium, potassium, and manganese but the nutritional profile also varies depending on if you’re consuming pure vanilla powder or powder made with sugar.
