Description
Vitamins & minerals are two of the main types of nutrients that the body needs to survive and stay healthy. They are often called micronutrients because the body needs only tiny amounts of them. They can be divided into four categories: water-soluble vitamins, fat-soluble vitamins, macronutrients, and trace minerals. Vitamins help the body to grow and work the way it should. There are 13 vitamins which are (fat-soluble) vitamins A, D, E, K and (water-soluble) vitamin C and B vitamins (thiamine, riboflavin, niacin, pantothenic acid, biotin, B6, B12, and folate). Minerals also help the body function. Some minerals, like Iodine, Fluoride, Iron, Manganese, Copper, Zinc, and Selenium are only required in very small quantities (which are trace minerals). Others, such as Calcium, Magnesium, Potassium, Phosphorus, Sodium, Chloride, and Sulfur are required in larger amounts (which are macronutrients). Vitamins & minerals convert food into energy and repair cellular damage.
