Description

Xylanase is a class of enzymes produced by some microorganisms. It degrade the linear polysaccharide xylan into xylose, breaking down hemicellulose(one of the major components of plant cell wall). Humans are not capable of producing this digestive enzyme despite eating some plant-based foods that contain this type of fiber. It can be used for bread making and the production of corn starch.

Health benefits

  • Xylanase promotes the digestion of plant-based foods that help to increase the availability of nutrients in the body. (1)
  • It supports healthy intestinal bacteria with an increase in xylan-based prebiotics present in xylanase. (1)
  • It can help to reduce gas or intestinal discomfort from eating foods that are otherwise difficult to digest like fibrous vegetables and beans.(1)

Selection Guide

Look for xylanase that comes from all vegetarian, gluten-free, non-GMO sources and contains no animal products.
