For those who love Nachos in India, there are majorly two good brands selling on a mass scale, Cornitos and world famous Doritos. Although Doritos is a new entrant, but its worldwide fame immediately shot it up the ranks in the Indian market. Cornitos is giving steady competition, being an Indian product and considered to be fat/gluten free. It is really crispy and there are loads of crisps available in the packet. This is my favorite of all the flavors that Cornitos has to offer. It has the perfect cheesy taste on every nacho crisp and this particular package is good enough for an evening snack. I gulp down an entire packet at one go when I start munching on this one. Its a great "Chakhna" or an accompaniment when drinking. Such is the taste of this product, that a lot of restaurants and multiplexes serve this nachos only along with salsa dip and Mayo dip. There are several other competitors coming up but they need to up the ante to compete with Cornitos. I love to have it with diced onions, tomatoes, bell peppers and coriander leaves. Bake it a little with a dash of cheese and you have an easy to make snack. The packaging is eye - catching too and comes in a convenient packet.
Act II are the early movers in the Popcorn market and are a household name across India. Their advertisements ring a bell too within the child in us. It is very simple to make. Just open the package, pour the contents (Corn and oil) in a pressure cooker, leave the lid of the cooker open slightly and listen to the sound of the corns bursting in to popcorns. This version comes as a salted one. Although its a salted version, the taste is very similar to the classic predecessor. Since there is not much of a difference, it is not worth the penny spent. Moreover, a lot of corns do not pop out. If all the corns are popped out, then some of the popped ones become burnt due to the heat. So there is no equity in taste for all the popcorns. The package can be as convenient as it can be. A very small packet, and ideal for an evening hunger, takes about 2-3 mins to cook.
From "Let's drink some juice", it became Let's drink some Tang. Especially in summers, when its a necessity to cool off from the blistering heat, a tall glass of Orange Tang soothes the mind. The sweet content is pretty high and to get a good decent taste, you have to add atleast 2-3 spoonfuls of Tang powder to the water. Add 2-3 ice cubes and you are good to go.
Nescafe beverages are good for soothing down. This Hazelnut flavored drink is somewhat close to the coffee one, for which Nescafe is altogether famous. It has a much smoother texture and comes in a cool green colored pack. It tastes best when served chilled. It is receiving a tough competition from the Hershey's brand. It's chocolate drink are too good, very thick and rich in taste. So Hazelnut might be a little lesser thick than Hershey's. It has got to be a little thick when its a milk based drink. The package is very light and can be easily available across all stores. But look for a refrigerated one.
Foxnuts or Makhana had always been on the cards during festivals in India, as it is not a hyped food product or more commonly eaten across the country. But Too Yumm's Tandoori Foxnuts, gave a superb twist to the superfood (as many people consider it to be). It is very well suited to the palate of the Indian consumer, as people like it spicy and hot. I can keep on gorging on this and yet not get bored. It's a superb accompaniment while binging and watching sports or a movie. No additional supplements are required with this one. What I like the most about it is the terrific packaging design. It's eye catching and to top it all, there is no such competing products available next to it. The quick growth story of Too Yumm (Brand Ambassador is Virat Kohli) is conclusive evidence how widely popular this snack has become amongst Indians.
If Tandoori Foxnuts was not enough, Too Yumm came up with Chatpata Masala version. It is more spicy and lip-smacking. Every foxnut is perfectly covered with the flavors of various spices and each of them is crunchy as well. A lovely tea-accompaniment and an indulgent evening snack. It has got a rich taste and the packaging allows a crispy and crunchy foxnut. I really love this company as they have understood the palate of Indians very well and have infused the spicy flavors into a not-so-well-known food item, Foxnuts. A thumbs up to the packaging design team. They have done a good job in coming up with a aesthetic package that keeps in contents intact.
Apart from the loaded chocolate cookies and melted chocolate infused biscuits, Bourbon has a separate fan base. The biscuits can be found anywhere and has ample amount of biscuits inside the 120 gms packet. I am having these since my childhood and it has somehow stuck with me ever since. Two biscuits sandwich a chocolate paste and sprinkled with sugar cubes, to make a drool-worthy Bourbon. The taste is immaculate, not to doubt that. But with the advent of extra chocolatey loaded biscuits like Milano, Pure Magic, Hide & Seek, I would put Bourbon a bit down the line. Hence, 4*.
There are a variety of brands of pickles available in today's market and with the lack of mass advertisement, a lot of brands go unnoticed. But I personally like Tops brand as their taste is spicy and tangy (well, all of them are, but this one tastes better). The nearest to its competition is the Mother's brand, which is used widely. The packaging is perfect for those who are travelling or eating in a tight space and still wanna have a pickle. The small packet is easy to carry and contains ample amount of pickled slices of carrots, lemon, mango rtc. It is also served on some public transportation as well. For home consumption or on a daily basis, a larger jar is recommended. For one time use, this is the best option.
When it comes to rustic pepper sauce, Tabasco is the only name that pops up in your mind. It has been widely accepted in India after dominating at home, in USA. It would be hard to miss out Tabasco on the table of your favorite restaurant. This petite little bottle is eye-catching and has become a brand in itself. It's cute, the least to say. When it comes to taste, it cannot be better than this. I mean, there is no one close to it, let alone, beat it. It's an authentic taste with the perfect spiciness. I love it. Have it with anything you like. I like it the most with a cheese cube, rubbed with black salt and chaat masala, and pour a couple of drops of Tabasco. It's lip-smackingly good. Highly recommended.
Verdict: Not good. The sauce is extra thick, way too spicy and salty. It is almost a copy of the Pou Chong Sauces here in Kolkata. It has the same ingredients and is very similar to each other. Ching's Red Chilli Sauce has a different taste altogether. Its much better than Weikfield. The latter can be used for Indo-Chinese dishes like in the street food fried rice or noodles. But as an accompaniment, I would give it a No. To make it thick, they have used potatoes. I don't understand what's the use of potatoes in a sauce, Its extra salty too. After a couple of dips, it is unpleasant. The bottle is completely wrapped in a colored plastic. The contents are not clearly visible as with other brands.
