Natural alphonso mangoes give natural aroma that is noticeable from a distance.Chemically ripened mangoes do not give such aroma. Look for mangoes that are soft to touch . Naturally ripened mangoes show gradients in yellows and green.Avoid chemically ripened mangoes that are yellow, yet hard.
