Dandelions have slightly bitter, sweet, earthy and nutty flavor.

Usage Tips

  1. When the flowers are completely dry, store them in a glass jar that seals air tight or in sealed plastic bag. If stored properly, dried dandelion flowers have a shelf life of about 1-3 years.
  2. Dandelion tea is a classic spring herbal tonic.

Description

Dandelions have small flowers collected into symmetrical flowerhead which is bright yellow and the basal leaves are long and broad having irregular teeth and lobes. They originated in Eurasia and now have been introduced to North America, South America, New Zealand, Australia and in some parts of Europe. The flowers are best used to make Dandelion wine. They are available from May to October. Dandelion has a mildly bitter and sweet aroma.

It is suggested that pregnant women, nursing women, and children are advised to avoid dandelion remedies because of the lack of research into their long-term safety. Consuming too much dandelion may reduce fertility in women and testosterone levels in men due to a substance in the plant, called phytoestrogen, which mimics estrogen.(2)
