Choose figs that have strong fragrance as it indicates freshness. If figs are too fresh and unripe, keep them at room temperature to ensure it gets ripe. While purchasing dried figs ensure that it is free from moulds. Choose figs that are plump and firm.
Both dried and fresh figs have high levels of Vitamin K. thus one should avoid consuming it with blood-thinning medications like warfarin. Since figs are rich in fiber, eating too many figs may cause diarrhea. (2)
