Description

Fried murukul or Murukku is a well known savoury, crunchy snack originating from southern India, and Sri Lanka. It is especially popular in the states of Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh. Murukku is typically made from rice flour and urad dal flour. The flours are mixed with water, salt, chilli powder, asafoetida and either sesame seeds or cumin seeds. The mix is kneaded into a dough, which is shaped into spiral or coil shapes either by hand or extruded using a mould. The spirals are then deep fried in vegetable oil. Though it is a fried snack but making it in ghee is healthy for you. As it is prepared from rice flour, gram flour, wheat flour and a mixture of lentil flours, eating it in moderation as a snack is not a bad option
