Jam is neither a liquid or a solid. Look for a jam with a good semi-jellied texture, easy to spread with no free liquid. It may form liquid if kept out of the refrigerator and even decay. Go for an organic jam with no added preservatives or artificial flavors.

Description
Jam is a fruit preserve made with any whole pressed fruit(apple, papaya, strawberry, raspberry, blackcurrant, pineapple, plums or any other), sugar and pectin. It contains as much sugar as it contains fruit and these two parts are then cooked together to form a gel. A jam must at least have 45% of the named fruit and 66% of water-soluble solids(according to Canadian food and drug regulation (CRC)). It comes in different flavors that include mixed fruit jam, mixed berries jam, raspberry jam, blackcurrant jam, and strawberry jam.
