Description

Palm oil is an edible vegetable oil that is produced from the pulp of the fruit of the palm tree. This fruit is reddish in colour. The palm fruit is about the size of a large olive. It has a single seed or kernel, which is used to produce palm kernel oil. It belongs to the Palmaceae family and has originated from West and Central African countries, It can be used both as a crude oil as well as in the refined form. Palm oil is found in almost 50% of the packaged products we find in the market, from pizza, doughnuts, and chocolate, to deodorant, shampoo, toothpaste, and lipstick. It also has been utilised in animal feed and as a biofuel in different parts of the world. It is used in African and Asian cuisines.
