Permitted Antifoaming Agent E - 900a is a food additive used as an anti-foaming agent derived from silicone and is a non-biogradable synthetic substance. It is a clear, colourless, viscous liquid. It's usually added to cooking oil to prevent it from bubbling up when frozen ingredients are added to it. As a result of this, it can be found in minute quantities in many fast food items such as Chicken Nuggets, french fries and hash browns. It also changes the surface tension in many liquid foods allowing for a more uniform appearance. Hence, it is used in cooking oils in fast food restaurants to cut down on oil splatters while food is in the deep-fryer. Because of its non-biodegradable properties, Permitted Antifoaming Agent E - 900a is regularly used as a food preservative.
