Description

What is INS 440?

Permitted Emulsifying & Stabilizing Agents (INS 440) is derived from pectin and is a white to light brown powder, extracted from fruits.INS 440 is a natural acid polysaccharide present in nearly all fruits. Pectin levels are highest in fruit which is just barely ripe. It is commercially produced from apple pulp and orange peels. It is a mixture of polysaccharides and its main component is galacturonic acid. It is mainly used as a gelling agent, thickener and stabilizer in jams, jellies, dessert fillings, fruit juices, and milk drinks .
