Description
Kokum butter and oil are derived from the fruit kernels of the kokum tree. To make Kokum butter, kokum oil is extracted from the seeds and processed into a vegetable butter similar to cocoa or shea butter. Kokum is more firm and crumbly than other butter and is typically found in a light gray or yellowish color. The fruit and seeds of the kokum tree are used in a variety of culinary, cosmetic, and medicinal applications. Kokum butter is high in essential fatty acids like omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids. The chemical structure of the fat allows kokum butter to remain solid at room temperature. Although technically edible, it’s most often used for making topical cosmetic and medicinal products. However, brief researches specifically focusing on the pharmacological potential of kokum butter is still lacking.
