It is preferable to buy a regular-sized bottle as well as the gallon jugs. It’s economical and keeps well in the pantry. As for quality and price, the general rule is, the more expensive the wine, the higher quality it is (less briny, more flavor).

Shaoxing wine is a type of Chinese rice wine that hails from Shaoxing, a city in China. It is a rice wine that is made specifically for cooking. Just like in Western cooking, it is used to add depth and complexity to sauces, broths and anything it is added to. With early records mentioning it, Shaoxing Wine is one of the oldest forms of rice wine in China. It is also bottled for domestic consumption and for shipping internationally. Aged wines are referred to by year of brewing, similar to grape vintage year.
