Methods
  • 1. Preparation for oats khichdiâ–˘Wash and soak moong dal in water till used.
  • 2. â–˘Next wash and chop onions, tomato, carrot and beans. You can also skip all the veggies.Make oats khichdi
  • 3. â–˘Pour ghee to a hot pot or cooker. Add cumin.
  • 4. â–˘When they sizzle, sautĂ© ginger and chili till it turns aromatic. Do not burn.
  • 5. â–˘Add hinge if using. Next put in the onions and sautĂ© until transparent.
  • 6. â–˘Transfer all the veggies and sautĂ© for about 2 to 3 minutes.
  • 7. â–˘If using tomato then sautĂ© until tomatoes turn completely soft and mushy.
  • 8. â–˘The raw smell of the tomatoes has to go away.
  • 9. â–˘You can also add little chili powder if you prefer.
  • 10. â–˘Drain the water from dal and add it to the pot.
  • 11. â–˘Fry for about 2 to 3 minutes till the dal smells good.
  • 12. â–˘Add oatmeal, salt and turmeric. Fry for about 2 minutes.
  • 13. â–˘Pour water. You can adjust the quantity of water to make it mushy or slightly grainy.
  • 14. â–˘On a medium flame, pressure cook for 3 whistles.
  • 15. â–˘Dal has to cook completely.
  • 16. â–˘If cooking in a pot, cook until the dal has soft cooked adding more water as needed.
  • 17. â–˘When the pressure goes off open the lid. If desired can add little more ghee.
  • 18. â–˘Serve oats khichdi warm.
