Puran Poli is a winter special lentil stuffed sweet flatbread. It is a very popular Maharashtrian recipe people made on festive occasion. It is also called Boli Obbattu which is popularly made on Pongal or Sankranti.

Ingredients For Puran Poli Recipe

Methods
  • 1. In a pressure cooker, cook the chana dal for 6 to 7 whistles.
  • 2. After this, mash the cooked dal with masher.
  • 3. Heat ghee in a pan, add the cooked chana dal and sautĂ© well for 5 minutes.
  • 4. Now add grated jaggery and cardamom powder and stir well.
  • 5. Let this puran mixture cook on a low flame till the mixture becomes dry.
  • 6. Let this stuffing mixture cool.
  • 7. Take whole wheat flour, all-purpose flour, turmeric powder, ghee and salt in a bowl mix well.
  • 8. Add a little bit of water and mix well to knead the dough, adding water as required.
  • 9. Make medium size balls from dough and fill the stuffing in it.
  • 10. Seal the edges, sprinkle some flour and start rolling the dough to make a medium or large circle (poli).
  • 11. On a heated tawa or griddle, spread some ghee and place the rolled poli/dough circle on the tawa.When one side gets browned, turn over and cook the other side till you see some brown spots and Puran poli will puff up.
  • 12. Make all pooran poli this way and serve puran poli warm or at room temperature with milk, ghee or curd (yogurt).
