Recipe Notes

While steaming take care that they do not get stuck because of water in plate. Coconut filling should not be too wet that it runs out of dough. While steaming place the modak on banana leaf, as it would be more effective and chances of modak sticking to plate will be less.

Ingredients For Ukdiche Modak Recipe

Methods
  • 1. Mix desiccated coconut with jaggery,cardamon powder, chopped almonds and cashewnuts together and heat until jaggery dissolves on low flame.
  • 2. Turn of the gas after the jaggery dissolves totally and the ingredients mix properly.
  • 3. Then take basmati 1/2 kg rice atta specially available in market for modak and add 2 cups of water and shake on medium flame for 10 minutes.
  • 4. Kneed the rice atta to soft dough and then prepare katori size shapes stuff coconut mixture in it and prepare dumplings.
  • 5. Modak mouldes available in market can also be used.
  • 6. On other side keep water for steaming. Steamer can be used for same.
  • 7. Apply oil on steamer plate before placing the modak on plate. Steam for 20 minutes on medium flame.
  • 8. After 20 minutes remove from steamer and let it cool for 5 minutes.
  • 9. Then remove from plate and modak are ready to serve.
