Prawn Sesame Toast is a Chinese dim sum dish. It is made from small triangles of bread, stuffed with minced prawns and coated with sesame seeds, then cooked by deep frying to perfection. It is a common appetizer in Australian and American Chinese cuisine. For it’s relatively few ingredients, it is big on flavour and it’s fairly simple to put together. The prawn, garlic and bread are made for combination and the sesame seeds add a sense of nuttiness which brings the whole dish together. You need to eat it when it’s piping hot, dunked stickily and generously in sweet chilli sauce, that's the magic! This delicious dish is super easy to make and will hit all the right spots on your palate! When i was interning in Dubai, this was my go to snack as it was served as a complimentary starter at the Seafood Restaurant I worked at. This is however a simpler and quicker version which will definitely be a win win for you in terms of time and end product! I will also be posting the recipe to make a Sweet Chilli Sauce which is the best accompaniment for this dish, so do check that out as well!
Once you have coated the toast in sesame seeds, you can also freeze them to fry later. This will allow you to prep multiple Prawn Sesame Toast and keep, so when you crave one, you can fry them immediately and enjoy it hot!
