Vegan Dal Pakwan Khakhra Chaat Recipe

Dal Pakwan is a popular and traditional Sindhi dish.  It can be taken as a wholesale meal, breakfast or snacks. Pakwan is a crisp puri served with spicy dal. It's proteinaceous as it is packed with pulses. This healthy vegan recipe is yummy and tempting.  I used multigrain khakhra which served as a base in place of puri.

1) The consistency of the dal shouldn't be too runny or dry.2) Spread the chana mixture generously over the khakhra.

Methods
  • 1. Add chana dal in a pressure cooker with 1 cup of water, turmeric powder and salt. Pressure cook for 15 minutes.
  • 2. Heat oil and add half of the chopped onion. Saute it and add garlic. Then add chopped tomato and mix properly.
  • 3. Add cumin powder, chilli powder, salt, garam masala and the cooked dal. Stir properly and cook for a few more minutes. Keep it aside.
  • 4. To assemble the dal pakwan chaat, first place the khakhra in the serving plate.
  • 5. Spread the chana dal mixture over it generously. Sprinkle the remaining chopped onion over it.
  • 6. Then, with the help of a spoon, spread green mint coriander chutney and tamarind chutney over it.
  • 7. Garnish it with pomegranate seeds, onion pieces and coriander leaves. Enjoy!!
