Soak the rajma overnight or fir 8 hours. Boil them till tender and set aside. Wash properly and soak the rice in water for 1 hour. After that, drain excess water.

In a heavy bottom skillet,heat ghee. Once hot, temper with cardamom, cinnamon, cloves, bay leaf. Saute them till aromatic. Now add onions and saute till they turn translucent. Add the ginger-garlic paste and saute till the raw smell is gone.

Next, add the boiled rajma and mix well. Fry for 3-4 minutes. Next, add the soaked rice. Saute till the rice turns translucent. Finally, add 2 cups of hot water. Add salt and sugar. Mix gently and cover with a tight lid. Cook for 15 minutes till all the water dries and rice is tender.

Sprinkle garam masala powder. Mix gently and give a standing time of 10 minutes. Serve hot.
