This idli can be served with coconut chutney, green chutney, sambhar too... but at my place everyone loves it with tomato ketchup.

Methods
  • 1. Keep the steamer with required amount of water on gas. Heat it.
  • 2. While the steamer is getting heated place a non-stick pan on the gas burner and add rice flour water 1 tsp water and 2 tbsp oil in it. Mix everything properly and switch on the gas.
  • 3. Cook for 3-4 minutes till everything binds properly. Now switch off the gas and cover the pan for 5 minutes.
  • 4. Now bind the mixture when little hot by applying oil on hands. Make small round balls from it and keep it for steaming in the ready steamer.
  • 5. Meanwhile in a pan make things ready for tempering. Take the remaining oil and add mustard seeds and cumin seeds into it.
  • 6. When the seeds crackles add both the dals and cook till they become golden brown. Now add green chilli paste and ginger paste and cook till it's raw smell goes away.
  • 7. Now add asafoetida, turmeric powder remaining salt, red chilli powder and lil water and cook the spices. Now add the grated carrots and cabbage to it and cook on high flame for 2 minutes.
  • 8. Now add the ready steamed idli to the pan and cover and cook for 2 more minutes. Leave the pan covered for 5 minutes and then serve it with tomato ketchup.
