Wheat Ghughri Recipe

Wheat Ghughri is a traditional maharashtrian dish made on special occasion of Gudi Padwa, you can try with seasonal pulses too, it is made up of different types of grains & legumes mainly wheat & Sorghum. It makes a wholesome healthy meal & can be loaded with the goodness of various veggies too. Here, I am sharing traditional Ghughri recipe made in maharashtrian households. Serve ghughri with green chutney or imli chutney, we preferably use Green mango chutney as it is the starting season of Mangoes.

Recipe Notes

If wheat grains, kala chana, fava beans, sorghum & peas are soaked overnight, they are easily cooked in less time within 30 mins & so. If you don't have any grain from the above ingredients, replace it with red gram (tur).

Ingredients For Wheat Ghughri Recipe

Methods
  • 1. Soak wheat grains, bengal gram, sorghum, dried peas & fava beans overnight i.e. for 7-8 hours before cooking time.
  • 2. Cook all the soaked grains in the pressure cooker (add 4-5 glasses of water) till 5-6 whistles (approx.)
  • 3. After being cooked for 45-50 minutes, take it down in a plate & add flaxseeds oil, if you don't have flaxseeds oil available you can opt for any oil as per choice.
  • 4. Add all the leftover ingredients i.e. red chilli powder, salt etc. Mix well.
  • 5. You can also add lemon juice if you like to. Garnish it with finely chopped onions & coriander leaves.
  • 6. So, here we are. You can serve any chutney side away, for best outcome use imli or green mango chutney. Serve hot & enjoy the easy healthy recipe at home.
